Deputy Editor, LFTO

Rob joined Live for the Outdoors as deputy editor in September 2024 and works across our hiking, trail running and camping content. He grew up obsessed with tales of adventure and had his first taste of the mountains on a wild camping trip to Scafell Pike that he organised through school as a teenager… Since then, he’s developed a particular love of type 2 fun. Simply put, he’s happiest when undertaking a long and arduous challenge in the outdoors.

Naturally, then, after finishing a uni degree in journalism and travelling the world for five months, Rob landed a job at Adventure Travel magazine (it’s known as Wired for Adventure these days) in 2015. Within 18 months he became editor of the brand – a role he held for over three years. During that time, Rob was reviewing every type of outdoor kit under the sun and documenting incredible hikes both at home and abroad.

Those adventures took him into a range of rugged landscapes, including Alpine ridges in Switzerland, frozen lakes in Siberia and the infamous Wadi Rum desert in Jordan. In between the big trips, though, have always been those jam-packed weekends of hiking and scrambling in the UK.

Before joining LFTO, Rob spent three-and-a-half years as content editor at 220 Triathlon, where he put his body on the line (he has the scars to prove it!) to review kit, report on races and tell the stories that really mattered.

Now that he’s hanging up the Lycra and lacing up the walking boots once again, he’s got his eyes on a summit attempt of South America’s highest peak – Aconcagua. In the meantime, though, he’s more than happy working his way through every peak in Wales.
