Ever wanted to go on a through-hike looking like a nineties raver? Well, now you can, as Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher has joined forces with outdoor brand Berghaus to bring back their retro Trango jacket.

Launched in 1986 and engineered in Newcastle upon Tyne, the Trango was initially designed for the first British attempt to summit K2, and quickly adopted by the Keswick Mountain Rescue Team in the Lake District. British Mountainaineering legends Sir Chris Bonnington and Alan Hinkes OBE both wore Berghaus apparel during their pioneering expeditions to the Himalayas.

However, the brand quickly changed tack in 1997, when Liam Gallagher wore a Berghaus jacket on stage with Oasis in Oslo. Though some may look back in anger, the logo then evolved into a badge of honour across subcultures, with Berghaus' bold, multi-panel outerwear becoming synonymous with rave culture, the Madchester scene, and even the football terrace Casuals.

Fast-forward to 2024 and It's all Cigarettes and Altitude again: Liam is back in Berghaus, and Oasis dominate the cultural zeitgeist, having announced their reunion tour. Speaking about the collab, Liam said:

“My first encounter with Berghaus was through my brother Noel. He purchased a green one in the late 80s and I was always pinching it off him.

"They were all the rage and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on one of my own. I thought to myself ‘when I’m rich and famous I’m getting myself one.’ I finally did that and I’ve still got it to this day. To be asked to work with them on their comeback means a lot”

The launch of the ICONS collection now marks a major moment for Berghaus, as it embarks on a new chapter of reclaiming its status as a Shakermaker at the heart of British streetwear.

Today the Trango, the Mera Peak and the Lumley have all been refined and updated for the summits and streets of 2024, but their souls are decades old.
