FEATURES
There are lots of backpacks similar to the Gregory Miwok 24 in the £70-80 price band, but what sets this one apart is the weight of 817g combined with a stretch BioSync back system that allows the body to move easily yet holds the pack close. The body has a zipped main opening as well as a very useful expanding front stash pocket and a large zipped pocket on the top. Mesh side pockets and compression straps are also provided. 4/5
FIT
This comes in one (men’s) size only. The fit can be adjusted a little via the top tensioning straps but there are fewer size options than in some packs. The Miwok really hugs the back, with the stretch panels at the hipbelt and shoulder straps allowing good freedom of movement. The hipbelt fins are quite wide, which in part helps them to fit a range of body shapes. 4/5
COMFORT
The Gregory Miwok 24 is very comfortable as it hugs the body rather than sits on it. This gives it a unique feel that allows freedom of movement in a comfy way without destabilising the load. However as the hipbelt is not overly stiffened it does mean that heavier loads are not so effectively distributed to the hips as some designs. So a bit more support would be good for some loads. 4/5
IN USE
With typical hillwalking, as opposed to heavier climbing or overnight loads, the Gregory Miwok 24 carries well and is great for scrambles. I’d prefer a buckle-lid closure, but the ziparound design on this pack is well-supplemented with an OS map-sized zip pocket and a large front stash pocket. Also I like the compression straps, the side mesh pockets and the hipbelt pockets. 4/5
VALUE
This sack compares favourably to those priced from £75 to £80 so it has to be better-than-average value. 4/5
VERDICT
The Gregory Miwok 24 is a good hillwalking rucksack with a close, body-hugging fit and a zipped opening that offers great value for its price tag. 4.0/5
