Do you know the island of Menorca? Maybe you do, perhaps someone you know has spent their holidays there, or maybe you’ve even enjoyed it yourself at some point in your life. If not, you're in luck! Today, we invite you on a virtual tour of the trail running events happening in Menorca throughout 2025.
All of them are supported by the Fundació Foment del Turisme de Menorca, the Agència Estratègica de Turisme de les Illes Balears and the Fundació Balear de l’Esport.
The first thing that stands out in Menorca for trail running enthusiasts is the impressive Camí de Cavalls. This 185km trail encircles the island and is marked by more than 2,000 wooden posts. Along the way, you'll encounter diverse terrain, including dirt paths, sand, rocks, tracks, asphalt and forested areas, with a total elevation gain of over 3,500m across its full distance.
With more than 700 years of history, this ancient trail was restored as a public path in the 2000s, allowing visitors to explore it freely by following the posted markers. While the official guide defines the Camí de Cavalls as having 20 stages, each person can start wherever they like and follow their own path.
Taking advantage of this incredible trail, four major trail running events are organised outside the peak tourist season, offering a unique way to explore the island one step at a time.
The first race of the year: Trail dels Fars

The first trail running event of the year is the Trail dels Fars, featuring three distances: 46km, 21km, and 12km. The longest route connects the Cavalleria and Punta Nati lighthouses, offering a scenic and challenging course.
The race finishes in Ciutadella, where the finish line area plays a crucial role in enhancing the experience, welcoming runners with a refreshment station stocked with typical local products.
This event typically takes place in February.
Trail del Nord: a new challenge for 2025

The second race of the year is the Trail del Nord, taking place on Saturday 29 March. In 2025, the event undergoes a major transformation, introducing two new distances: 30km and 14km, both ending in the charming town of Ferreries.
The longer race starts near Binimetl·là Beach, while the 14km route begins at the Cala Pilar parking area, both set in stunning, untouched natural landscapes. At the finish line, runners will be welcomed with a festive celebration, featuring music and food.
This race offers more than just the Camí de Cavalls. It also ventures through historic inland trails, such as the Camí Reial del Nord and the Camí de Santa Àgueda, leading to a Muslim-era castle that once stood as one of Menorca’s most strategic locations. Today, only ruins remain, giving visitors a glimpse of its historical significance.
Trail Menorca Camí de Cavalls: the island’s biggest trail event

In May, as spring transforms Menorca into a vibrant, colorful paradise, the Trail Menorca Camí de Cavalls takes center stage as the island’s largest and most well-known trail-running event. From 2-4 May, this spectacular race offers eight different distances, catering to all levels of trail runners.
The longest and most extreme challenge is the 185km ultra-distance, which circumnavigates the entire island within a 40-hour time limit. The race starts in Ciutadella, heading north along the coast. For those looking for a team challenge, this distance can also be completed in relay teams of two or three runners.
Another standout race is the 100km "Costa Nord" route, which takes place along the northern coastline. Starting at night, this event offers participants a unique opportunity to experience Menorca’s breathtaking night sky, as the island has been designated a Starlight Destination due to its exceptional star visibility.
Trail Menorca also offers the opportunity to explore the island’s southern coastline with an 86km route that passes through some of Menorca’s most famous beaches, such as Macarella, Turqueta and Punta Prima.
For those who prefer shorter challenges, the event includes a 58km route covering part of the northern coast, a 44km route exploring a section of the southern coast, a 24 km challenge and a starter race of 11km for beginners.
October Trail: the ultimate end-of-season celebration

The Menorca trail running calendar concludes with the October Trail, an event that perfectly combines sport and celebration. Held on 25 October, this race transforms the finish line into a lively festival with live music, sports exhibitions and an energetic atmosphere that lasts until late at night.
The race features three distances: a 32km course starting from Son Bou Beach, a 19km course starting from Cala Mitjana, and an 11km course starting from Cala’n Turqueta.
All races finish at Lago Resort Menorca, a hotel that times its season closing to coincide with this exciting event. For more details, visit Elitechip, where you can also find a complete calendar of trail running events across the Balearic Islands.
